Roundcase Engine Number Stamping 

These numbers are early examples, each character is individually stamped

The overstampings are common, some early engines are worse than this !

These are from a sand cast engine, no overstamping but nowhere near straight ! Note the
case half mating.



By 1973 the factory had a better handle on the stamping, still not straight.



These are from one of the last 1974 models, by this time  they were pretty good.
Case half casting  machine matching of the cases was signified by numbers usually situated between the cylinders.
